This easy, minimum ingredient Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler Recipe will transport you right back to grandma’s kitchen in a matter of about 30 minutes.
Peelin’ peaches and tellin’ stories?
Yep, that’s what is on today’s agenda.
The basic recipe comes from an old Pecan Festival cookbook (circa 1970) and called for only butter, flour, sugar, milk, peaches. But for me, I can’t do cobbler without cinnamon and vanilla. I’m not sure what it is but you’ll rarely find me not sprinkling cinnamon on just about everything.
I think it just gives the dough batter a bit of oomph and keeps things from tasting so, I don’t know, doughy?
The recipe is ridiculously easy and as much as we enjoy peach cobbler every single summer, I was astonished to see that I haven’t already posted it before. I specifically recall mentioning the north Louisiana Peach Festival but what I found was Old Fashioned Peach Crisp, Honey Bourbon Peach Crisp and this Ruston Peach Triple Layer Trifle ……but no cobbler. All those peach recipes and no cobbler!?!
As I was browsing the aisles of Tuesday Morning I spotted these fun napkins with aqua tassels on them that I knew would match a ceramic baking dish I already own.
So, into the buggy the napkins went and off to the produce stand I went. Funny how a set of napkins can spark a bit of ambition.
Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler Recipe
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups peeled and sliced peaches juices reserved
- Vanilla ice cream optional
- sprig of mint optional garnish
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the butter in a 9 x l3-inch baking dish and put inside the preheated oven to melt.
- Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add the milk, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla and stir together being sure to get any lumps out.
- Remove the baking dish with the melted butter from the oven. Pour the batter into the hot pan. Spoon the peaches and then the juices evenly over the batter. Return the pan to the oven and bake until brown and the batter has risen up and around the fruit, about 30 minutes. Remove to a rack to cool slightly. Serve with ice cream and garnish with fresh mint.
I am convinced that there is no problem too great that a bowl of peach cobbler and a scoop of ice cream won’t solve. And even if it won’t solve the problem, it at least allows you a moment of calm and comfort while you figure out how to solve whatever issue you’re facing.
