Join us for a TAIL wagging good time.
My dogs take tailgating just as serious as I do.
They don’t actually “party” at the TAILgate party, but they do get lots of play time.
And treats. TAILgate treats.
If you’ve been to a college football game lately you know that between the time sitting in traffic, the time tailgating, the time watching the game, then the time spent in more traffic trying to go home winds up being WAY too long to leave your dogs alone.
Especially separation anxiety prone dogs like my two.
One day I’m going to be able to convince the teen next door to watch the game on my tv, eat some pizza, and hang out with my dogs. If I were my neighbor, I’d jump on the chance to make some extra cash by simply walking two cute dogs and snuggling on the couch. In front of the football game.
Sure beats watching babies. Or screaming toddlers.
Until then, though, Stella & Milo have to hang out with the other dogs partaking in the canine version of tailgating.
Just as any parent wants other children to like their kids because they bring the best treats, I want the staff to dote on my dogs in my absence because a. they’re super cute and b. their human brings the other dogs cute treats.
And I have accepted it.
And because I want your dog to steal the tailgate show as well, I’m sharing with you our
Peanut Butter & Carob Frosted TAILgate Footballs.
I often use this same recipe and a tiny heart shaped cookie cutter for smaller bite size cookies.
Drizzle a tiny bit of honey on top and watch your dogs go bonkers. Seriously bonkers.
It’s important to note that the piping on these cookies is made from carob chips NOT chocolate.
Chocolate can be downright lethal to dogs, while carob (use in moderation) assists in digestion and as far as your dog is concerned tastes like chocolate!
I can only find the chips from Whole Foods, but try any health food store- they’re located right next to the chocolate chip morsels.
Homemade Peanut Butter & Carob Icing Cookies
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup water
- **optional tbsp of honey drizzle**
- **optional 1/2 cup of melted carob chips**
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine wheat flour, rolled oats, and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Add the peanut butter and water. Mix the ingredients together untils dough forms. Roll the dough into approx 1/4 inch thickness on a heavily floured surface. Bake for about 8-10 minutes or until cookies are slightly golden. Sometimes I glaze with a few drops of honey.
- To pipe the footballs, heat the carob chips in the microwave in a sealed piping bag. 20 seconds then kneed, continue in 10 second intervals until the chocolate will flow easily from the bag. Snip a tiny opening in the piping bag and outline the cookies.
